Chhorn Sovannreach was a great singer when he was with U2 and Chenla Brother Production but nobody paid much attention to him. However, when he joined RHM for less than 6 months, Chhorn Sovanareach has now surprisingly risen to a near top position, rocking the world of pop music and making some people thinking if this 21 year old rising star is taking over the RHM’s top performance trophy from Preap Sovath. People are talking about it everywhere - local and overseas. Unlike Sok Reaksa who has been with RHM for a while now and only gets one or two songs in a CD or DVD without much publicity, Chhorn Sovannareach seems to make a consistent spikes picking up the pace since his performance with RHM’s Best of the Best 2007

Angkorthom.US does not think RHM wants to shut the door from their top producing cash cow – Preap Sovath completely or right away for Chhorn Sovannareach, as it is hard to find someone who can entertain people like Preap Sovath though he is getting relatively old among RHM’s singers. It took RHM a long time to develop and promote Preap Sovath for him to be a super star today, and they know people still like him very much. Plus Chhor Sovannareach has different style and his voice is completely different from Preap Sovath's. Please check out the latest survey results. However, from a management stand point RHM has to continue to develop new waves of their cash cow to diversify their workforce and be able to carry on without Preap Sovath or any other signer at any given time as singers do leave for a reason and it takes a long time to develop and promote one. So far we already saw Kim Leakena left because she got married. Then recently Nop Payarith also left RHM for his business. It is not a question whether Preap Sovath will leave RHM, but it is when he will leave RHM. With his CD/DVD shop, Wedding Embellishment and Tailor, Hair Salon and restaurant, he will one day walk away from RHM when his popularity drops. So there is no doubt that RHM is developing Chhorn Sovanareach as one of RHM’s performers but not to replace Preap Sovath at least at this point. We all can wait and see if this is going to be the case when the albums are released.

Chhorn Sovannareach made two appearances on stage for Phnom Penh TV. For both events, Chhorn Sovannareach was a supper star already! Young audience was overwhelmed by his performances. It was also a big turn out when he performed in Poi Pet during 2007 Water Festival. He told media that he was very happy to know people like him and that he was not trying to complete with anybody. So far he has been singing sad and slow songs. He said he will sing some Rock music type of songs in the future. Chhorn Sovanareach continues promoting himself actively. He has made several appearances via different TV channels. Though he has not been acting for any big scale movie, his acting ability is not bad considering he has only started his career in 2006. For sure with help from RHM’s directors and leaders, Chhorn Sovannareach has what it takes to be both a singer and actor. Preap Sovat Still Most Famous in Cambodia

If you asked who is the most well-known Khmer pop singer these days, one answer most people would give you is Preap Sovath. Everybody - young or old, local or oversea, knows Preap Sovath, though his styles and presentation aim toward young audience. Preap Sovath was born and raised in Saang District, Kondal province, Cambodia. He is now 35 – born on 02/27/1972. He is married with 3 children. There is not much information about his wife and his children. He studied economics and law and started working for Rasmey Hang Meas Production in 1997.

Preap Sovath is not only a great singer but also a great actor and business man. Though he only sings for Rasmey Hang Meas Production, unlike other Rasmey Hang Meas’ singers, he can perform outside of his contract. I first saw him in one of Rasmey Hang Meas CVDs around 1998 but did not pay attention. Then, I saw him performing in San Pablo, CA, USA in early 2000s. He was already well-known at the time but not as much as today. I just remember he was all in black, resembling Ricky Martin – the famous Latino singer who was very popular in Latino community and USA. At the time one of his popular songs was Madech Kor Men Brap (Why didn’t you tell me?).

Then, I saw him again in March 2007 in Milpitas, CA USA with Ouk Sokun Kanha and You Disco. This was when a few security guys had to block people from getting too close to the stage. People (mostly young girls) started to jump up and down when he sang and danced and got crazy wanting to touch him. At my table, a few middle age couples left early, mentioning that was not their style because they couldn’t get into the dancing floor jumping up and down like those young girls in the crowd.
